Ex-Barcelona youngster Edgar Ie accused of having his TWIN play in his place & faces DNA test as scandal engulfs Romanian giants Dinamo Bucharest

  • Transfer completed in February
  • Five appearances taken in
  • Confusion continues to reign

WHAT HAPPENED?

The bizarre case has been uncovered by journalist Daniel Sendre, who has lifted the lid on a remarkable saga that has engulfed a club battling to avoid relegation. Dinamo put a deal in place for Edgar le in February, but were surprised when a player arrived who did not speak any English – despite having spent time in Spain, France, Turkey and the Netherlands.

WHAT PRUNEA SAID

The new recruit they acquired has figured in five matches, with former Dinamo player and president Florin Prunea saying of the speculation suggesting that Edgar le’s brother Edelino is the man that has taken to the field: “It seems surreal. I wondered if I was still sleeping! I started making phone calls, talking to friends and the news is true, I can’t believe it. Nobody denied it. I found out that he has a twin brother who also plays soccer.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Another journalist, Emanuel Rosu, says the player in Dinamo’s squad claiming to be Edgar le has been asked to provide his driving licence – with that request being refused. If it is proved that an imposter has taken to the pitch, then Dinamo risk losing the eight points that have been collected during the five matches in which Edelino has figured.

DID YOU KNOW?

A source from the Romanian Football Federation has told iAMsport: “There is no planned scenario for this situation. If the player who played is not the real one, there could be sanctions. Legally, a DNA test can decide everything. Of course, Dinamo never intended to use the twin brother instead of the correct one. I think that, if the DNA result confirms that it is his twin brother, they should consider a defence, considering that they did not know about this. The possibility will have to be considered, but if Dinamo was deceived and manages to prove it, then the risk of losing points does not exist.”

WHAT NEXT?

Edgar le, who is a Guinea-Bissau international, joined La Liga giants Barcelona in 2012 and made his senior debut under head coach Luis Enrique in December 2014. The 30-year-old defender also graced the books of Villarreal B, Os Belenenses, Lille, Nantes, Trabzonspor, Feyenoord and Basaksehir before signing for Dinamo. His brother, Edelino, spent time in the youth ranks at Lisbon giants Sporting before representing various other Portuguese teams.
