- Rooney claimed some of the injured players are faking
- Want to keep them fit for the FA Cup final and Euro 2024
- United currently missing a host of star players
WHAT HAPPENED?
The Red Devils succumbed to their second consecutive defeat and 14th overall in the Premier League this season as they went down 1-0 against Arsenal on Sunday at Old Trafford. The loss left United struggling in eighth position in the league as the club is staring at their worst possible finish in Premier League history.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
After the game, former Red Devils forward Wayne Rooney slammed some of the senior players of the squad who are currently out injured. The legendary player accused them of deliberately ducking out of the league matches in order to keep themselves fit for the FA Cup final against Manchester City and the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament which will start next month.
WHAT WAYNE ROONEY SAID
Speaking on Sky Sports, the 38-year-old said, “There are some very good players in that squad and the performances are way below par. You look at the injuries and some of those players could play; 100 percent.
“You have a European Championships coming up and an FA Cup final coming up. It is easy for players to stay out for a little bit and then come back towards the European Championships. I have seen it myself over the years. I just think the players who have been injured are not filling themselves with any credit at the minute.”
WHAT NEXT FOR MANCHESTER UNITED?
Erik ten Hag’s side will now aim to end the season strongly and will be next seen in action against Newcastle United on Wednesday at home.
