Premier League or MLS? Antoine Griezmann has big decision to make as clubs line up to sign €15m Atletico Madrid star

The French international has no shortage of suitors after a blockbuster season with the Rojiblancos in which he scored 24 goals and provided eight assists in 48 appearances across all competitions. According to Marca, Griezmann has garnered significant interest from Premier League and MLS outfits as he has a relatively modest release cause of €15 million (£13m/$16m) in his contract.

Griezmann’s contract with Atletico runs until June 2026. However, given the interest in the 2018 World Cup winner, the club is already considering a potential renewal to extend his stay at the Wanda Metropolitano.

During a recent training camp with the French national team, Griezmann expressed his desire to remain at Atletico despite interest from the English and American top flight.

He stated: “I want to stay at Atletico. I made a great effort to return and be accepted. I am fine there, for me it is a source of pride and I want it to be my last club in Europe.”

One of Griezmann’s most notable achievements this season was becoming Atletico’s all-time leading scorer. In the semi-final of the Supercopa de Espana, he netted his 174th goal for the club against arch-rivals Real Madrid. This milestone allowed him to surpass the legendary Luis Aragones, a feat that Griezmann regards with immense pride and respect.

The allure of the English top-flight, coupled with the financial capabilities of its clubs, presents a tempting proposition. Additionally, MLS’s growing profile could offer him a new and exciting challenge, which would be difficult for Griezmann to turn down. Nonetheless, for now, he remains focused on his duties with the French national team and his current commitments at the Spanish capital. However, a strong showing in Euro 2024 would see a further surge in his stock which could lead more clubs to show interest in him. An interesting summer ahead for the Frenchman!
