- Roque wanted to leave Barcelona
- Had problems with Xavi before sacking
- Likely to stay at club under Flick
WHAT HAPPENED?
The Brazilian forward made a sensational big-money move to Barcelona from Atletico Paranense in January. However, after a turn of events, it was reported that Roque was unhappy at the club under Xavi Hernandez and was considering leaving. However, Xavi’s exit and Hansi Flick’s appointment may have changed the 19-year-old’s outlook towards the future.
WHAT ROQUE’S AGENT SAID
Speaking to Radio Marca, Roque’s agent, Andre Cury, said: “Vitor Roque was expecting more minutes with Xavi. In front of him, there is a world-class player like [Robert] Lewandowski. It cost Vinicius Jr. two years to adapt. Now, with a new coach, he starts from scratch.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Roque had a great start at life with Barcelona, however, heading towards the latter parts of the season, it seemed as though Xavi had lost trust in the Brazilian as his minutes suddenly dropped. Through the second half of the season with Barcelona, Roque played 14 games – two as a starter – and scored twice in La Liga.
WHAT NEXT FOR ROQUE?
It now seems very likely that Roque will remain with the Catalan side and will look to impress new boss Flick in his hopes of securing regular playing time next season.
