- Varane set to leave United
- Linked with shock move to Liga MX
- Bayern, Juve and Saudi also rumoured
WHAT HAPPENED?
The links regarding a possible move to Mexico emerged after TV Azteca show “En Caliente” claimed Tigres would shock everyone in the summer transfer window by signing a defender from Europe.
Elsewhere, ESPN’s “Fútbol Picante,” journalist Jose Ramón Fernández claimed Tigres would be interested in a player “like Varane” in the coming months.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Varane, 31, will leave Old Trafford when his contract expires in June. The French international joined the club from Real Madrid three seasons ago and has since made 67 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions.
A host of clubs are now being linked with a possible move for the player, with Saudi Pro League teams, Juventus and Bayern Munich listed as some of the favourites.
WHAT VARANE SAID
“To you guys, supporters of Manchester United, it’s been an amazing few years to play for this special club and wear that shirt,” he said on his personal Instagram account following his last game at Old Trafford in midweek.
“The first time I went to Old Trafford as a Man Utd player it was insane, the atmosphere was amazing.
“I fell in love with the club, with the fans. You have to play for Man Utd to understand what that represents.
“For my kids, it’s home here. It’s going to be a special place for me for life.”
WHAT NEXT FOR VARANE?
The World Cup winner has missed the last eight games through injury but is back in training. He was last in action during the 4-3 loss to Chelsea in April but will be hoping to finish the season a high by beating City in the FA Cup final.
