Sean Dyche better than Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta?! Everton boss backed to succeed at Man City as former Crystal Palace owner makes outrageous claim

  • Dyche praised for his work with Everton
  • Jordan claims Dyche is on Guardiola’s level
  • Everton have avoided relegation

WHAT HAPPENED?

There is no escaping the mess that has surrounded Everton for the last few seasons. Unhappy fans, troubled owners, multiple points deductions and ownership issues are just some of the problems the Toffees have faced this season alone. However, Dyche has managed to guide the club to safety in the Premier League despite having to contend with an eight-point penalty. The former Palace owner has now claimed that the Englishman is on par with the likes of title-chasing Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta.

WHAT JORDAN SAID

Speaking on William Hill’s podcast Three Up Front, Jordan said: “Sean Dyche has done a remarkable job at Everton. He’s an elite manager operating in a different way to what we consider an elite manager to be. I don’t know if one of these so-called highfalutin managers like Mikel Arteta could go into Everton and get the team across the line with what he had to work with.

“Given the job that Dyche has done at Everton, I think that requires an elite set of thinking. I don’t think Everton, with the group of players that they’ve got, can play the way Manchester City can play. Do I think Sean Dyche could adapt to Man City? Yes. But there would be a perception that he wasn’t a ‘sexy’ manager, so subsequently everyone would be all over him and looking at him waiting for the first chink to appear.

“Conversely, could you stick Pep Guardiola or Arteta at Everton? You’d have to say to them you’ve got this group of players, you’ve got all of these problems going on off the pitch, you’ve got fans that are disenfranchised with the board, the owners on the way out, but get this team out of the trouble they’re in. I think that that takes an elite mentality.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Dyche has indeed become one of the Premier League’s well-renowned names thanks to his work with Everton this season and earlier with Burnley, who he kept in the Premier League for six seasons and also led into the Europa League. However, Jordan’s claim seems rather exaggerated and Dyche may well agree as he has always maintained a humble stature for himself.

DID YOU KNOW?

Dyche won the Premier League’s Manager of the Month award for the month of April as he led Everton to four wins and a draw in six matches in the league. The club also managed to keep four clean sheets in that period.

WHAT NEXT FOR DYCHE?

The 52-year-old manager will now lead his Everton side for one last time this season when they take on title challengers Arsenal at the Emirates on May 19.
