- Leverkusen emerge as Hummels suitor
- Possible replacement for Tah
- Milan & Inter also linked
WHAT HAPPENED?
According to Kicker, Leverkusen could turn to Hummels if Bayern Munich are successful in their efforts to sign €40 million (£34m/$43m) rated centre-back Tah. Leadership skills are a particularly attractive quality in the veteran.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Hummels’ departure from Borussia Dortmund was announced two weeks after defeat in the Champions League final amid rumours of a confrontation with coach Edin Terzic, who has also since gone. Days later, Mallorca were named a surprise suitor. Bild has also now reported interest from AC Milan and Inter.
DID YOU KNOW?
Hummels has won Bundesliga titles with both Borussia Dortmund (2010-11, 2011/12) and Bayern Munich (2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19) during his career, including a league and cup double with each.
WHAT NEXT FOR HUMMELS?
With MLS and Saudi Pro League moves also rumoured in recent weeks, it seems apparent that Hummels has options going forward. But the veteran defender, who will turn 36 in December, has also been tipped by some to retire altogether if he doesn’t find an offer that suits him.
