WHAT HAPPENED?
In May, England boss Sarina Wiegman named a squad that would cover both the double-header with France, on May 31 and June 4, and the final two qualifiers for the 2025 European Championships in July. She had to make do without James, Wubben-Moy, Niamh Charles and Kayla Rendell for the games against Les Bleues due to injury and – while Charles has been able to return for this upcoming camp – James, Wubben-Moy and Rendell have all had to withdraw.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Charles is still returning to full fitness but is set to be able to do so with the England squad, which travelled to the Netherlands on Monday for a behind-closed-doors fixture against the Dutch on Thursday. The same goes for Mary Earps, who limped off only minutes into the first game with France in late May due to a hip problem.
DID YOU KNOW?
With Rendell withdrawing, and Earps still recovering, Orlando Pride goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse has received her first England call-up and will join the squad on July 8, after completing club commitments. Georgia Stanway will meet up with the Lionesses on the same day, as she is currently with Bayern Munich after they started pre-season preparation.
WHAT NEXT FOR ENGLAND?
The Lionesses will face Ireland in Norwich on July 12 before concluding this stage of the qualifying campaign for the Euros in Sweden on July 16. Two wins will send England to the tournament automatically, avoiding the play-offs to take place later this year.
