Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have built “one of the most ambitious clubs in the world”, with Wrexham given huge billing by Arthur Okonkwo’s agent
- Keeper starred on loan last season
- Rejoined Red Dragons as a free agent
- Buying into plans of Hollywood owners
WHAT HAPPENED?
The highly-rated goalkeeper has agreed to return to North Wales following a successful loan spell in 2023-24 that saw him play an important role in promotion out of League Two being secured. Okonkwo has since severed ties with Arsenal and became a free agent.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Few gave Wrexham much of a chance when it came to capturing Okonkwo on a permanent basis, but he has signed a three-year contract with the Red Dragons and is very much buying into the project that Hollywood co-owners continue to piece together.
DID YOU KNOW?
Okonkwo is represented by the Arete agency, with Jonathan Beckett saying in a social media post that has accompanied confirmation of the 22-year-old rejoining Wrexham: “The Team are delighted to have secured this fantastic new contract for Arthur as he steps away from Arsenal on a permanent basis. It’s a brilliant platform to continue his development as a young goalkeeper. As one of the most ambitious clubs in world football it’s the perfect fit and we look forward to watching Arthur play his part this season.”
WHAT NEXT?
Wrexham first acquired Okonkwo after seeing ex-England international Ben Foster head into retirement. He went on to take in 39 appearances for the club, and would have seen even more action under Phil Parkinson had he not suffered a nasty jaw injury at one stage that required surgery and a protective mask to be fitted.
