Weston McKennie has been linked with a number of teams in the Premier League, but the USMNT star may have an MLS homecoming option to consider
- American has one year left on Juve deal
- Interest from a number of teams in England
- Ambitious teams in MLS have joined the race
WHAT HAPPENED?
As the 25-year-old midfielder only has a year left to run on his contract at Serie A giants Juventus, the expectation is that an exit door will swing open in Turin this summer. McKennie has already been mooted as a possible makeweight in Juve’s bid to prise Brazil international Douglas Luiz away from Aston Villa.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The former Leeds loanee is also said to be attracting interest from north London giants Arsenal and Tottenham, as they seek to bolster their respective ranks and ensure that they have enough depth in their squads to handle the demands of domestic and European competition.
DID YOU KNOW?
McKennie may, however, shun admiring glances from England entirely, with Pro Soccer Wire claiming that he has received an offer from ambitious FC Cincinnati. The terms on the table are said to be worth as much as $15 million (£12m), with several other MLS teams now monitoring his situation.
WHAT NEXT?
McKennie, who is currently on USMNT duty at the Copa America, has never played in MLS as he left the academy system at FC Dallas before making a senior breakthrough. He has impressed in Europe for Schalke and Juve, with the 2023-24 campaign proving to be particularly productive as he made 38 appearances and posted a career-best return of 10 assists.
