WHAT HAPPENED?
According to The Athletic, Olise has chosen to join Bundesliga giants Bayern in the summer transfer window after interest from Chelsea and Newcastle United.
Chelsea held talks with the Eagles regarding a move for the 22-year-old winger but pulled out of the race to secure the signing after deeming the finances ‘out of reach’ to complete a deal.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Olise was at Chelsea during his youth career from 2009 to 2016 before moving to Manchester City. He then joined Reading where he would make his breakthrough into senior football and eventually signed for Palace in 2021.
DID YOU KNOW?
Chelsea came close to signing Olise last year but he opted to sign a new four-year deal at Selhurst Park instead. The deal included fresh terms and a release clause of around £60m ($76m), which has sparked the interest of several clubs across world football.
WHAT NEXT FOR OLISE?
The Frenchman is currently away with the national side at the Olympics and his representatives will likely negotiate terms with the Bavarian club while he is away. If all goes to plan, he will join up with Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala at the Allianz Arena next season.
