WHAT HAPPENED?
During their time in Germany, England players and staff will wear a cutting-edge tracking device called the Oura Ring, designed to detect sleep patterns, body temperature, stress levels, and heart health. According to The Telegraph, Southgate is “a firm believer in marginal gains” and has been willing to use a variety of advanced technology throughout his eight years as England’s head coach.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Three Lions stars Conor Gallagher and Marc Guehi were reportedly spotted wearing the high-tech device during England training this week, and so was Southgate and part of his coaching team.
As per The Telegraph, defender John Stones is already an outspoken user of the ring. In 2023, he stated to Face Magazine, “The first thing I do once I’m out of bed is check my Oura Ring to see how I’ve slept – it’s addictive.”

The Oura Ring has a number of high-profile users including model Kim Kardashian, Prince Harry, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, NBA star Chris Paul and three-time Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn, among others. The company’s website states that the United States Army are known implementer of the technology in their ranks.
WHAT NEXT FOR ENGLAND?
The Three Lions will begin their Euro 2024 campaign with a clash against Serbia on June 16 at the Arena AufSchalke as they look to win their first major, men’s trophy in 58 years. Denmark and Serbia also await England in the group stages.
