  • Terzic quits Borussia Dortmund
  • Led them to Champions League final
  • Had arguments with Hummels on the night

WHAT HAPPENED?

The German-Croatian manager led Borussia Dortmund on their way to a surprising Champions League final less than two weeks ago. Die Schwarzgelben dominated the proceedings at Wembley on the night, however, reports from Sky Germany suggests that all was not well ahead of the clash as Terzic reportedly got into a heated argument with defender Mats Hummels, who questioned his tactics for the clash.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Terzic has also been linked with a move to the Premier League with Manchester United having been looking at the 41-year-old to take over, however, they decided to keep Erik ten Hag at the helm of the club for his third season at Old Trafford. The other club reportedly showing interest are Leicester City who are looking to replace Enzo Maresca following his move to Chelsea.

WHAT TERZIC SAID

In his official club statement, Terzic did not mention the reason for the sudden departure. Although, he did talk about the club needing to enter a ‘new era’ following his departure.

He said: “After the game at Wembley, I asked for a meeting with the club’s senior management team, because after 10 years at BVB – including five on the coaching staff and two and a half as head coach – I feel that the club’s new era should begin with a new man on the touchline.

“Everyone close to me knows that this has been a very difficult decision for me to take over the last few weeks, but after intensive discussions my fundamental feeling has not changed.”

WHAT NEXT FOR TERZIC AND DORTMUND?

Currently, the strongest link for Terzic remains Leicester, who are still on the hunt for a new manager. As for Dortmund, they will now have to quickly look for a name to take over from Terzic so as to prepare for the summer and the upcoming season.
