- Terzic steps down as Dortmund boss
- Sahin emerges as favourite to replace him
- BVB closing in on recruiting former player
WHAT HAPPENED?
Terzic asked the German giants to terminate his contract “immediately”, and the Bundesliga side acquiesced. Now, Bild states BVB are closing in on former player Sahin and Sven Bender could become his assistant.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Former Turkish international Sahin, who made 274 appearances for Dortmund over three spells with the club, managed Turkish side Antalyaspor between October 2021 and December 2023 – before he and Bender became Terzic’s assistant managers at BVB. While he had a 46.81% win record at his first managerial job, this is a big step up for the 35-year-old.
DID YOU KNOW?
Sahin left Dortmund for Real Madrid in 2011 but struggled to make an impact at Los Blancos, playing just 10 times. The midfielder then joined Liverpool on loan for the first half of the 2012/13 season, in another unsuccessful stint, before heading back to Dortmund for the second half of the campaign.
WHAT NEXT?
It may just be a matter of time before Dortmund make their move for Sahin, who also spent time at Werder Bremen, Antalyaspor, and Feyenoord in his playing career.
