Five players who look doomed at Man Utd now Ten Hag is staying with Jadon Sancho’s Old Trafford spell all-but over

MANCHESTER UNITED are set to keep Erik ten Hag on as boss next season, and not all of their players should be pleased.

The Dutchman, 54, was last night informed that he had been handed a reprieve following a two-week season review.

United chiefs spoke to Thomas Tuchel about becoming their next boss.

But after being snubbed by the German, they opted to stick with their FA Cup-winning manager.

Ten Hag had appeared doomed when the Red Devils slumped to an eighth-place finish.

After lifting the FA Cup, however, he was bullish about his prospects – insisting he would win trophies anywhere he went.

With Ten Hag now set to remain at the Theatre of Dreams, let’s take a look at the five players set to lose out most.

JADON SANCHO

Ten Hag has not seen eye-to-eye with Sancho since dropping him from his squad for a clash with Arsenal last September.

He subsequently claimed that he made the decision due to the winger’s lack of application in training, something Sancho refuted – saying he had been made a “scapegoat” and effectively accusing his boss of lying.

Sancho spent the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund and has now been made available for £40million.

AARON WAN-BISSAKA

Former £50m right-back Wan-Bissaka has started fewer than 50 per cent of Man Utd’s Premier League matches since Ten Hag’s arrival two years ago.

The defender, 26, has clearly fallen below Diogo Dalot in the pecking order, and with one year left on his contract could be sold.

With Inter Milan reportedly interested, it’s claimed that United would accept a £10m offer for Wan-Bissaka, which would represent a staggering £40m loss on what they paid for him in 2019.

HARRY MAGUIRE

Having initially been frozen out out at the start of last season, Maguire managed to fight his way back into the team at United, largely down to injuries.

The England defender, 31, was stripped of the captaincy last summer, in a clear weakening of his position at Old Trafford.

With Raphael Varane departing, the Red Devils are set to look for a new starting centre-back to partner Lisandro Martinez – leaving Maguire out of Ten Hag’s preferred XI once again.

CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN

Despite performing well during his first campaign at United, Eriksen became a bit-part player last season.

The midfielder, 32, bemoaned his lack of game time while on international duty in March, having fallen behind teenage wonderkid Kobbie Mainoo in the pecking order.

SunSport revealed last month that Eriksen would be handed the opportunity to return to Ajax this summer, if United were to agree to pay off the last year of his £150,000-a-week contract.

VICTOR LINDELOF

Swedish defender Lindelof is never likely to be anything other than a backup option at United under Ten Hag.

The centre-back, 29, started just 14 Prem games last term, with many of his appearances coming as an emergency left-back during an injury crisis.

With one year remaining on his deal, Man Utd may now try to cut their losses on Lindelof, who has been with the club since 2017.
