England’s women’s national team go into 2024 looking to put their disappointing end to 2023 behind them, with the Lionesses falling short of reaching the UEFA Women’s Nations League finals, and thus not qualifying for the Olympic Games, in December.
That outcome put a dampener on what had been another historic year for this team under Sarina Wiegman. After winning the European Championships on home soil in 2022, England reached the Women’s World Cup final for the first time last summer, though they were narrowly beaten in Sydney by Spain.
In 2024, there will be no major tournament for the Lionesses, with the focus on preparing the team accordingly for their defence of that Euros title in 2025 instead, which they will need to qualify for through the next stage of the Nations League, too.
GOAL has everything you need to know about England’s 2024 schedule, fixtures and results and how to watch the team.
What fixtures have England Women had in 2024?
Instead of competing in the UEFA Women’s Nations League finals in February, or indeed one of its promotion/relegation play-offs, England played friendly matches in the first international break of 2024, from February 19 to February 28. They beat Austria 7-2 in their first outing and then followed that up with another statement performance, defeating Italy 5-1.
April then saw the Lionesses return to competitive action as they kicked off their 2025 UEFA Women’s Euro qualifying campaign, drawing with Sweden before beating Ireland in Dublin. That was followed up in May by defeat at home to France, then victory over Les Bleues on the road just a few days later.
What fixtures do England Women have in 2024?
England will resume their Euro 2025 qualifying campaign in July, knowing that wins over Ireland and Sweden can book their place at that tournament without the need for play-offs.
The Lionesses will have two more windows in October and late November. If they finish in the top two of their qualifying group, these will be open for friendly matches. However, a third-placed finish will mean further qualification matches are needed.
How to watch England Women in 2024
The rights for England women’s national team’s games are not the same as the men’s team, with ITV the broadcaster for the Lionesses. Games are shown live across its various channels, often on ITV1 or ITV4, and also on ITVX, its streaming service.
If England play against any of Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, though, this can change, as it did in December when the Lionesses faced the former in their final Nations League group stage game. BBC holds the rights to broadcast games for the rest of the home nations and, as a result, England’s trip to Glasgow was broadcasted on BBC One instead of on ITV on that occasion.
For England fans in the United States, fuboTV is the best option for watching games involving the Lionesses. Generally speaking, FOX and FS1 will show European Championship games, while some games are broadcast on ESPN too.
