- Richards hits back at defence lawyer
- Keane alleged Arsenal fan attacked him at Emirates
- Lawyer claimed Richards a stooge of Keane
WHAT HAPPENED?
The ex-Manchester United captain alleged that a 43-year-old fan named Scott Law assaulted him at Emirates Stadium during Arsenal’s win over the Red Devils in a Premier League clash in September 2023. Keane alleged that Law headbutted him while he was at the venue for Sky Sports’ punditry duties.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
During the trial process, while cross-examining Richards, Law’s lawyer Charles Sherrard KC told Richards, “I’m going to suggest this is where you are Mr Keane’s puppy. It’s an uppercut elbow to the nose.” The Arsenal fan alleged that he was elbowed by Keane in the furore.
WHAT MICAH RICHARDS SAID
In response, the 35-year-old said: “Strongly disagree. You tried to mix my words a lot today, but I know what I saw.”
WHAT NEXT?
Law, who claimed to be a lifelong Arsenal fan, has pleaded not guilty to a charge of common assault as he said Keane had “approached him in an aggressive manner” which led him to throw his head back in “self-defence”.
