  • German has played final La Liga match
  • Waved goodbye at home stadium
  • Will finish club career with Champions League final

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Real Madrid legend was visibly emotional on his final home game in the Spanish capital. Kroos completed a lap of honour at the end of Los Blancos’ 0-0 draw with Real Betis and was thrown into the air by his team-mates. Kroos was also joined by his family when he was substituted on the 85th minute as they all received the full love and appreciation from the crowd for his 10 years of service.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

There is no doubt that Kroos could continue playing at the top level and he was offered an extension with the La Liga champions. But the German international has always said he would like to go out at the top and there are few major trophies he has not won during his time as a player that would make him carry on.

WHAT NEXT FOR KROOS?

The 108-cap international has one last piece of business before he turns his back on the game. Euro 2024 in his home country could be the perfect send-off for the former Bayern Munich player and Germany will fancy their chances with Kroos at the heart of midfield for the final time.
