WHAT HAPPENED?

The Getafe stopper collided with Mallorca’s Cyler Larin, which left the former “unconscious” due to a “severe” blow to the head – according to El Desmarque. The 31-year-old was treated by the club’s medical department and the match was delayed 11 minutes as an ambulance drove onto the pitch, before Soria was able to slowly walk off the field.

WHAT GETAFE SAID

Getafe delivered an official update on Soria’s condition after the game, which read: “Our goalkeeper, David Soria, suffered a head injury during the match against Mallorca that caused him to lose consciousness for several minutes. After the blow received, the player was immediately treated by the club’s medical team and was transferred to the Getafe University Hospital where he will remain under observation for the next 24 hours. David Soria is conscious and out of danger and his evolution is favorable. The club wants to thank the messages of support it has received during the last few hours.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

The footballing community will hope Soria makes a full recovery after this incident. This game brought an end to Greenwood’s loan spell at Getafe, with the 22-year-old set to return to parent club Manchester United this summer. It remains to be seen what his next move will be as an Old Trafford exit beckons.
