Man Utd’s shockingly low summer transfer budget revealed as Red Devils prepare for substantial rebuild

  • Man Utd in need of summer rebuild
  • But have little cash to spend
  • Could sell stars to raise funds

WHAT HAPPENED?

Manchester United are expected to strengthen their squad in the summer after a disappointing season and following the partial takeover by Sir Jim Ratcliffe. However, the Red Devils’ transfer budget currently stands at just £35m ($44m), according to the Daily Mail. Yet United are hoping to boost their transfer kitty by “selling off stars” and are also open to player swaps in the summer transfer window.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Defence has emerged as a priority for Erik ten Hag’s side, with Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo and Nice star Jean-Clair Todibo all targeted by United, according to the report. The Red Devils are also thought to want a replacement for ageing midfielder Casemiro and remain interested in exciting Palace star Michael Olise as well as RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.

WHAT TEN HAG HAS SAID

Ten Hag, whose future remains uncertain at Old Trafford, has insisted the club won’t struggle to attract top players even though the Red Devils will not be able to offer Champions League football next season. He said: “I think, for every player, Manchester United is a very attractive club and of course you want to play at the highest levels. But if you want to go into a project in a club like Manchester United, I’m sure Manchester United is a very attractive club for every player.”

WHAT NEXT FOR MANCHESTER UNITED

Manchester United can still end the season with silverware as they face local rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday. Victory for the Red Devils at Wembley would also secure a place in next season’s Europa League and, potentially, keep Ten Hag in his job for another season.
