The 2024 MLS campaign kicked off in sublime fashion with all the American sides vying to kickstart their respective campaigns on a high. The extravagant festival of American soccer has produced some jaw-dropping goals and mouth-watering moments as viewers once again brace themselves for a feisty MLS Golden Boot race with Inter Miami reuniting the Barcelona duo of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
The Argentine and Uruguayan duo of Messi and Suarez will be aiming to replicate their days in La Liga and link up once again like their old days. Messi completely transformed Inter Miami since his arrival last term and Suarez’s arrival could create havoc in the league and the two could cause multiple problems for the opposing defence.
While the Inter Miami superstars would garner massive attention this season, 2023 MLS Golden Boot winner Denis Bouanga would also be hunting for the glorious prize once again and become only the fifth player in history to capture the award twice.
Colombian star Cucho Hernandez and talismanic Argentine starlet Luciano Acosta are other notable mentions who could compete for the swashbuckling prize.

Real Salt Lake acquired Cristian Arango to change their fortunes as the former Pachuca forward proved his worth having played half of the 2023 MLS campaign. But with the Colombian forward having the opportunity to lead the attack throughout the campaign, Arango would be aiming to continue his purple patch in front of goal.

Since he arrived in the United States of America, Lionel Messi has added plenty of quality to David Beckham’s Inter Miami. And with La Pulga playing a complete campaign, it’s no surprise to see the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner amongst the top scorer charts in the MLS.
5Lewis Morgan | New York Red Bulls | 8 goals
Scottish midfielder Lewis Morgan made the switch from Inter Miami to New York Red Bulls as he had a scintillating campaign for The Red Bulls Metro after switching ships.
Morgan thundered 15 goals and three assists in his first season at the NY Red Bulls but followed it with a shambolic campaign as he failed to produce any goal contributions throughout the 2022/23 MLS campaign. The attacking midfielder is now on course to turn around his statistics as he has started the season on a high.
6Dániel Gazdag | Philadelphia Union | 7 goals
Dániel Gazdag had enjoyed two successive MLS campaigns before the 2023/24 season scoring goals in double digits. The Hungarian will now be vying to replicate his heroics once again for the Union.
7Raúl Ruidíaz | Seattle Sounders | 7 goals
The Seattle Sounders forward Raúl Ruidíaz, who has racked up over 80 direct goal contributions since joining the Sounders from Universitario in July 2018, has been in excellent goal-scoring form this season.
8Dejan Joveljić | LA Galaxy | 6 goals
Dejan Joveljic had a below-par campaign in 2023 in the MLS but the Serbian international has improved significantly this season. The former Frankfurt forward had just nine goal contributions last term and he’ll be vying to change that statistic this season.
9Denis Bouanga | Los Angeles FC | 6 goals
After winning the 2022 MLS Cup and following it up with a campaign that saw him land the 2023 MLS Golden Boot and lead the Black and Gold to yet another Cup win, Denis Bouanga’s stock is among the highest across the MLS.
He had a slow start to the 2024 season, but he has put it behind him to reclaim his place among the MLS top scorers.

Cucho Hernandez had a prolific 2023 MLS campaign as the Colombian starlet thundered 21 goals and bagged eight assists last season. The Columbus Crew forward would be aiming to go one step ahead this term as he’ll be looking to win the 2024 Golden Boot Award.
13Julián Carranza | Philadelphia Union | 4 goals
Julian Carranza was on the wishlist of every MLS outfit after two staggering campaigns for Philadelphia Union where the Argentine scored 15 and 14 goals, respectively. Carranza would now be aiming to make it three seasons on the bounce with double digits in the MLS.

Portland Timbers acquired Brazilian prodigy Antony from Arouca in August 2023 and the winger has been a hero this season for the MLS side. A threat in the air, Antony proves his worth on the pitch with his Brazilian flair and flamboyance whenever he’s in charge of the ball.
17Luciano Acosta | FC Cincinnati | 3 goals
One of the big reasons behind the rise of FC Cincinnati from the bottom of the Eastern Conference a couple of years back to currently running away with the top spot is the presence of creative attacker Luciano “Lucho” Acosta, who is the team’s attacking hub.
The 29-year-old captain has a great ability to create plays and opportunities for his team, but he also has a knack for scoring goals. Last season, he finished fourth in the Golden Boot race with 15 goals

Colombian forward Andres Gomez was signed by Real Salt Lake in 2022 after he had 12 goals contributions in his country’s domestic league. Gomez has the opportunity to justify his price tag this season and help the Claret and Cobalt scale new heights.

German winger Fabian Herbers rose through the ranks at Philadelphia before joining Chicago Fire in 2018. Herbers scored just four goals and bagged two assists in MLS last term but he has the perfect opportunity to add to his tally.

Former Barcelona prodigy Riqui Puig has been a star signing for LA Galaxy since joining from the Catalan heavyweights. Puig had 11 goal contributions last season and the Spaniard will look to replicate his heroics once again.
