WHAT HAPPENED?

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are preparing to make more funds available at SToK Racecourse this summer, with the Hollywood superstars having done their best throughout a three-year reign to ensure that club boss Phil Parkinson has a highly-competitive squad.

More tinkering is required in the summer of 2024, as back-to-back promotions have lifted the Red Dragons into League One. They are now in the market for pedigree at that level, with experience a key quality when climbing up the EFL ladder.

DID YOU KNOW?

Rafferty was said to be a player in Wrexham’s sights, as it has been confirmed that the 30-year-old defender – who has previously played in the Championship for Preston North End and just helped Pompey to the third-tier title in 2023-24 – will be released as a free agent when his contract expires.

WHAT HAS BEEN SAID?

The RobRyanRed podcast has, however, claimed: “Contrary to reports elsewhere, RRR understands Wrexham are not pursuing free agent Joe Rafferty. Wrexham have made it known they are in the market for an attacking wing-back this summer.”

WHAT NEXT FOR WREXHAM?

With an approach for Rafferty seemingly off the table, Wrexham will be turning their attention elsewhere. Eight players are being released by the Red Dragons, freeing up space in their ranks, but Parkinson has stated that recruitment business will not be rushed as Reynolds and McElhenney play the long game.
