WHAT HAPPENED?

Despite the announcement of Thomas Tuchel’s departure from the club coming in February, Bayern Munich are yet to finalise a new head coach ahead of the 2024/25 season. They were linked with a move for managers like Xabi Alonso, Ralf Rangnick, Julian Nagelsmann, and Hansi Flick but none of the coaches agreed to join the Bavarian club.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

With only a game left for the club in the current season, sporting director Eberl claimed that the delay in appointing a new head coach has left the club frustrated. However, he argued that the German giants are determined to find the best possible candidate for the job.

WHAT MAX EBERL SAID

Speaking to reporters, Eberl said, “We said that we actually want to be finished in April if it takes until May, until May. Now we’re in the middle of May and of course, we’re annoyed that it hasn’t worked out the way we imagined. Now it’s the case that we obviously have to try to find the best one. We’re having discussions. We are having discussions and want to try to find the new coach as quickly as possible.”

When asked if the club would consider continuing with Tuchel beyond the current season, the official said, “At that time it was confirmed again by both sides that this was the case and accordingly there is nothing else to say.”

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi is reportedly leading the race to become the club’s next boss, although Eberl refused to give out any names as he said, “I won’t comment on a single name until we really have the ink dry and the coach has signed.”
