- Al-Ittihad want to sign Ter Stegen
- Goalkeeper signed a new deal in August
- Saudi club struggling this season
WHAT HAPPENED?
According to Mundo Deportivo, the 2022-23 Saudi Pro League champions Al-Ittihad are keen on signing the Barcelona star in the upcoming summer transfer window. The German goalkeeper put pen to paper on a new deal last August that will keep him at the club until June 2028.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Al-Ittihad have failed to replicate their success in the current campaign as they find themselves four in the Saudi Pro League despite signing top names like Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Fabinho last summer. To bolster the squad ahead of the 2024-25 season, sporting director Ramon Planes, who formerly worked at the Catalan club, has made the 32-year-old goalkeeper a priority signing for his team.
DID YOU KNOW?
The former Borussia Monchengladbach custodian has appeared in 32 games across all competitions for Xavi’s side in the current season. He had remained out of action for nearly two months after suffering a back injury in November.
WHAT NEXT FOR BARCELONA?
The Blaugrana will be next seen in action on Monday as they face Rayo Vallecano in an important La Liga fixture at home.
